2018 Adam Smith Chile Conference

The deadline for submissions has now closed.

Please visit the Universidad Adolfo Ibañez’s conference site for more information about lodging, grants for young scholars, and programming.

We are pleased to announce a Call for Papers for an IASS international conference on Adam Smith to be held at the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez campus in Viña del Mar, Chile, from January 12-13, 2018.

The 2018 IASS Conference, generously hosted by Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez and IASS board member Leonidas Montes, will bring together scholars working on Smith from across the globe and build on the success of our recent jointly-hosted conference in Glasgow with the Rousseau Association and Palermo with the History of Economics Society. Competitive grants for young scholars will be available.

Deidre McCloskey (University of Illinois at Chicago) will give a keynote lecture entitled “Smith the Non-Utopian vs. His Followers since 1848.”

The conference will also coincide with summer in the Southern Hemisphere! The campus is located on a beautiful seaside resort on the Pacific coast, ninety minutes from the Chilean capital of Santiago.

We invite submissions from all disciplines, as the conference will consider a wide range of perspectives with a particular but not exclusive focus on Smith’s reception in Latin America. Abstracts may be sent to internationaladamsmithsociety@gmail.com with the subject line “Chile Conference Submission” or submitted in the text below. Abstracts must not exceed 500 words. The due date for submissions was September 22, 2017.

More information for interested participants will be updated frequently on this page.
